【转帖】抛弃"机王"HTC Evo 4G,回归Palm Pre!

I switched from my Palm Pre to the HTC EVO 4G about a week ago. I was very happy with my Pre, but with the unknown state of future versions of webOS (we now know webOS is will be conituing and webOS 2 looks pretty amazing) I decided to retire my Pre and move to the Android based HTC EVO 4G. I first want to make clear that this isn't an EVO 4G/Android bashing. My time with the EVO 4G was good, and it was fun to see how Android has changed since the last time I had an Android based smartphone.
One of this first things I noticed was how many apps the Android Market had, there are over 100,000 apps available versus webOS' App Catalog of about 5000 apps available. I downloaded a bunch of apps for the EVO and soon began to notice that my battery was draining very quickly. I did some research and found out that Android handles background apps and services very different from the way webOS and iOS does. A few people told me that I really needed to download a task manager to manage running apps and services on the EVO. I downloaded a few apps to do this, they did help battery life, but this way of managing my EVO quickly reminded me of Windows Mobile. I didn't want to constantly monitor and quit apps and processes that would even turn on after I killed them due to the way Android apps speak to one another. If you launch one app, chances are that app will also open other apps and services it thinks it needs to be running. It reminded me so much of Windows Mobile that I felt like I was going back in time having to manage apps and processes. On my Pre flicking an app off the screen killed the app, there was never a need to monitor my Pre with a task manager.
I also felt Android wasn't as polished as iOS4 running on my iPhone 4 and webOS 1.4.5 running on my Pre. I missed using the Pre's keyboard to just begin typing to get to an app, contact, settings, etc. I also just missed having the physical Pre keyboard.
In terms of how the EVO 4G and Palm Pre feels holding it, the Pre in my opinion just feels better in the hand. That's very important to me.
Last but certainly not least, the webOS gesture area and intuitiveness of swiping back, forward, flicking apps off the screen, etc. is something I love about my Pre and webOS. I realize that while the Pre is ancient in terms of the latest smartphones on the market it comes down to what works best for the person using the device. To me the Pre/ webOS is still the most intuitive smartphone OS even when put up against the iPhone 4/iOS 4, and the EVO 4G/Android 2.2.
I had fun playing with Android and learning a new OS, but I came to realize that the grass is still greener for me with my Pre and webOS. I called Sprint last night and had them re-activate my Palm Pre and have packed up the EVO 4G to return. It's very nice to be back to me Pre!
